College really is a bubble. Especially where I go to school. It can be so easy to ignore what’s going on in the real world. One of my majors is political science, so I’m inherently learning about current events. But it’s even easy for me to stop paying attention. I’m someone who believes that politics and current events are incredibly important. I don’t buy the whole “it doesn’t relate to me so it doesn’t matter.” It does matter. And it does relate to everyone. It relates to our livelihoods and our futures. Whatever your political affiliation may be, it’s important to pay attention. It’s important to keep up with what’s going on and actually care about it.
As a college student, you’re finally on your own. Educate yourself, and discover what you think is right, and what is wrong. It’s no longer just going along with what your parents think, it’s realizing what you really believe. And if you believe what your parents do, great. If you don’t, that’s fine too, and it’ll make for some interesting Thanksgiving dinner experiences (I can tell you that first-hand).
